Description
Facial images of field spirits changed when newer spirits were crafted between 1920 and 1940. The human form is accompanied by a less passive, more active threat to any intruder who would present a threat. The boxer clearly is ready to do harm, and the 'Warning to men who threaten the family, flocks, or garden' is a clear warning that decapitation and death would result If the guardian's territory were to be transgressed.
'Sentry to home' (depicting a boxer), is an example of later field spirits created between 1920 and 1940.
