Benjamin French was born in Paris, Kentucky, on December 18, 1877; he was the son of Benjamin Charles and Lina Hickman French. He attended school in Paris and Cincinnati and had lived in Piqua since his marriage to Tilla L. Henderson on December 26, 1901. French was a caterer and was active in politics for many years. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and a member of the Masonic Order, including the Union Logege and Consistory, and one of the founders of Order of Eastern Star 59. Affiliated with Cyrene AME Church, he was a former church board member and Sunday School teacher.
French had a son, Benjamin Franklin French, and three daughters, Carolyn French, Ernestine Hicks, and Beverly Johnston. "
