Research Services

We are pleased to welcome you to the Meek-Eaton Black Archives. You will be seated in our Reading Room, where requested materials will be delivered. To ensure a productive research experience, please carefully review the research information below.

Research assistance is available by appointment only. On your scheduled day, research hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with lunch breaks determined by the archivist or archival assistant based on their availability.

The mission of the Meek-Eaton Black Archives is to collect, preserve, and provide access to records of lasting historical value related to the Black experience in the Southeastern United States. Many of these materials remain actively used by donors and their descendants, who seek to analyze and interpret the Black experience independently.

The collections housed within this repository serve educational purposes, and use is subject to specific guidelines. Liability regulations require all researchers to clearly state the intent of their projects in writing. Per donor agreements, the Meek-Eaton Black Archives reserves the right to restrict access to certain materials.

No part of the collection may be reproduced, in whole or in part, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted by any means—whether electronic, mechanical, photocopied or emailed—without prior written permission from the Meek-Eaton Black Archives.

We wish you the best in your research and look forward to supporting your investigative endeavors.
