Welcome to Great FAMUAN: Part One, presented by Florida A&M University’s Meek-Eaton Black Archives Research Center and Museum. This exhibition celebrates the individuals whose scholarship, leadership, service, philanthropy, creativity, and commitment have contributed to the enduring legacy of Florida A&M University. Drawn from Meek-Eaton’s collections, the exhibition features oil portraits, oversized photographs, and other framed works entrusted to the Archives by alumni, families, friends, and supporters across generations. More than representations of distinguished individuals, these works are historical records—visual testimonies to lives of consequence and to those who transformed possibility into progress. Through the stewardship and interpretation of these materials, Meek-Eaton invites visitors to look beyond the portrait and encounter the histories, achievements, sacrifices, and lasting influence represented by each face. Together, these works remind us that institutions are sustained not by buildings and traditions alone, but by people: those who envisioned what could be, opened doors for others, strengthened communities, and created pathways for generations to follow.
